Christmas Holiday Love
I have always been a baker. My first memories of home baking are of my sister backing chocolate chip cookies late at night. I remember sneaking down so Mom wouldn’t hear to go have milk and cookies with her. It felt like warm gooey love straight from the oven. My sister is older so when she moved out I started to make my own cookies and fell in love with the whole thing. I made the recipe my own and started to give them away as gifts. My friends Dad fixed my car for cookies a few times at his shop. I payed for the part with my money but the labour was paid with love from the oven. I still try to bring him cookies when I see him!
From the cookies grew a holiday tradition. I started making traditional holiday treats, tweaking the ingredients to make them my own. For over 30 years I have been gifting baking boxes to my friends and family. It has always been my thing.
Once I opened Cakery Arts it seemed like a natural progression to take my treats and put them on the market. December and January are quiet months in the cake world so I decided last year to do just that. I called my amazing photographer friend, Alicia Khan, and bartered Christmas baking for photos. I set to it and made batches of all the treats. Once the shoot was done Alicia chose whatever she wanted from what was there and I got some fantastic photos of my work. I got down to marketing and was busier than I expected as people embraced the concept of hand made goodies.
This year I am ready for it. Boxes & Stickers…check. Dry Ingredients…check. Order Book….check. and my new favourite thing…Christmas Ordering Page on my website….check. By the way, I am also paying for that with cookies…and possibly some other treats.
